Sacred Is Not Enough

The Bible speaks of sacred time—the Sabbath, of sacred space—the temple, of a holy city—Jerusalem, of a sacred work—the temple liturgy. The prophets affirmed these sacred symbols and also cautioned against idolizing them.  Carefulness regarding religious symbols is no substitute for moral action.  We would do well to cultivate an appreciation for the sacred and a firm resolve do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
