Courageous Empathy, Part 2

Moral courage comes from standing up to your own “side,” when necessary, on behalf of the side of the “enemy.” This sort of moral courage is difficult because it sometimes feels like betrayal. Standing up to your own side is labeled as treason. This week’s sermon talks about one of the most famous examples of courageous empathy that occurred during the Vietnam War. This is when an American helicopter crew witnessed atrocities committed by fellow Americans, so they pointed their guns at their own side to save innocent civilians.
