In the City of Joy, the people savor their wealth. They cultivate the art of appreciation. In this city, even oatmeal is seen for the treasure it is—the fruit of an entire civilization, sustenance delivered to our tables by a vast network of machinery, vehicles, bureaucracies, seed companies, cardboard manufacturers, wholesalers, grocery store chains, and truck drivers. A single bite of cereal is a taste of our shared humanity. In the City of Joy, the supreme festival is a shared meal. We come to the table of the Lord together. Our own private tables are marked as outposts of the Lord’s Table by words of blessing. We are rich. We happily know it. With delight, we share.
