It’s the beginning of the year. It’s common to challenge ourselves with lofty ambitions. We are exhorted to make resolutions, to lay plans for bettering ourselves. Which is all well and good, until we remember other ambitions that failed to materialize, other efforts that did not succeed. I think it is better to begin the year “in Sabbath.” Let’s first enjoy the Divine assurance that we are beloved, that our work is enough, that we are at home, and throughout the new year will return again and again to the place of Divine embrace.
