Alex Gagiu has been the conductor of the orchestra of the Green Lake Church of Seventh-day Adventists since 2008. The opportunity of leading an orchestral ensemble is a lifetime dream come true for Alex; serving as a music minister within the church of his religious affiliation is a most honorable blessing!

Alex is a native of Romania, having immigrated to the USA in 1986 together with his parents and sister. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School in Piano Performance (1990), Alex embraced the art of music conductor, which led him to attend The Westminster Choir College in Princeton, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Music, Choral Conducting (1994). That same year, he was offered the position of Minister of Music at the Mount Baker Park Presbyterian Church in Seattle. He has been living in the Northwest ever since, where he and his wife Hellen have been blessed with two children, Andrew and Irina, and many wonderful friends.

Since 2000, Alex has served as Assistant Artistic Director of The Seattle Girls’ Choir; in this position he has taught and conducted choirs in local concert venues, at North American festivals, and three international tours to Europe. Maintaining a busy teaching and performance schedule, Alex has also been a contracted music teacher in the Renton School District since 1999. In 2007, Alex was accepted in the doctoral choral conducting program at the University of Washington, where he is currently conducting research toward his degree.
